Exhibition Concept
Unknown Kawaii: The “unknown cuteness” hidden within sofubi

When you hear the word sofubi, what comes to mind?
Kaiju? Aliens? Or perhaps a life form from a world yet to be recorded?

Sofubi has a mysterious charm. Each piece carries its own personality and a small universe of its own.

Unknown Kawaii brings together artists who explore a kind of cuteness that cannot be fully explained in words, yet quietly captures the heart. Rather than imitating the classics, these creators use sofubi as a medium to summon worlds that belong only to themselves.

For artists, sofubi is a creative language, soft yet resilient, capable of holding delicate emotions and subtle imagination.

Sofubi feels like a short message delivered from an unknown space: a little strange, a little gentle. Sometimes it is like a tiny monster hiding deep within the heart; sometimes it takes a form that seems to carry warmth and body temperature. It is difficult to describe, yet it gently settles into the mind.

“Unknown cuteness” is something your own eyes and hands will discover. Take your time to feel how it touches you, and how it quietly finds its place.

What Unknown Kawaii reveals is the sense of life within sofubi, something not yet named or defined, yet unmistakably “kawaii.”
