Message from the Founders

静電場朔 (Dian)

Visual Artist, Musician, and Designer

I love art. I love creating. I love toys. I love games. I love books. I love fashion. I love drawing. I love music. I love Harajuku. I love the universe.

And more than anything, I love my friends.

All of these loves came together to form a single universe: SOMSOC GALLERY.

The word “SOMSOC” is born by reversing “COSMOS.” It represents an inner, hidden universe—a mirror world that carries a quiet sense of rebellion and a will to re-create.

In the vastness of the cosmos, human beings may seem small and insignificant.

And yet, here in this singular point called “Ura-Harajuku,” something miraculous happens.

Each person’s inner universe—their own SOMSOC—begins to seep into reality, and somehow, reaches the world.

There is hope here. There is anticipation for the future.

People of different ages, nationalities, and backgrounds gather. Stillness and passion intersect. Breath and words overlap.

Little by little, SOMSOC became a shared home within our hearts.

This is not a place to escape from the world. It is an entrance back to yourself.

Welcome to the hidden universe of SOMSOC GALLERY.

SOMSOC began as a small, modest space in a corner of Harajuku. It was never large, nor was it meant to be.

Yet within this limited place, the time and attention of artists, creators, and people who love culture—coming from different countries and disciplines—have quietly overlapped.

From the very beginning, we valued not the presentation of “finished answers,” but the presence of space—space where something could emerge.

There is a belief that has remained unchanged since our founding: to create an environment where everyone involved with this place can experience the joy of creation, each from their own position.

Before being a company, SOMSOC seeks to remain a “site” where culture can take shape.

By holding onto this stance, we have been fortunate to meet collaborators and visitors who continue to engage with us over long periods of time, across generations and borders.

We have never confined ourselves to a single genre. Instead, we have continued to shift our form.

Art, fashion, games, animation, music, and everyday sensibilities—these elements do not exist independently, but intersect, blend, and generate new contexts.

At SOMSOC, a “project” is an attempt to share that very process.

As digital technology evolves, the ways we express and communicate continue to change dramatically.

At the same time, the value of what cannot be fully conveyed through screens—atmosphere, distance, subtle emotional shifts—has come back into focus.

SOMSOC stands between the digital and the physical. We want it to be a place where simply visiting becomes an experience.

“Wanting to come,” “feeling comfortable”—we will continue to cherish these simple sensations.

We are moving away from an era where trends are rapidly consumed, toward one where individual sensibilities and backgrounds are respected.

Toward a time when people with shared values and interests connect loosely, forming communities.

SOMSOC hopes to be a place where artists, creators, and all those who care about culture can meet beyond their positions or labels.

Small moments of resonance accumulate, gradually forming new cultural currents.

Within that continuity, we believe there is a quiet yet certain joy.

From Harajuku as our point of departure.

An ancient sage once said:
"Art is long, life is short."

Creativity is infinite, yet our lives are inevitably finite.

In an era where AI has made almost everything achievable by a single person in an instant, I have made a conscious choice: to build and operate SOMSOC alongside a community of extraordinary partners.

In a world overflowing with information—where everything vanishes in the blink of an eye—we at SOMSOC choose to preserve. We choose to build.

We do not treat your creative spirit or your history as a tombstone. Instead, we strive to transform them into living milestones—vibrant legacies that can be revisited at any time.

SOMSOC GALLERY is more than a space; it is a vessel for all of us to retain our dignity and find fulfillment as time unfolds.

We envision a "universe" where value circulates and accumulates toward the future.

We don’t predict the future.
We create it, right here.
