[Artwork Statement]
Growing up in Brazil, surrounded by nature, I loved imagining adventures with my friends. This dragon was a companion who went on adventures with me in those stories, like a talisman.
Ouroboros is an ancient symbolic motif. The Greek word means “one who eats its tail,” and it depicts a serpent or dragon holding its own tail to form a circle. It symbolizes eternity, the cycle of life, and rebirth.
Like the rebirth represented by Ouroboros, I painted this work with the hope of evolving into a better self: not being trapped by painful past events or my flaws, but looking toward good experiences and my own strengths, as though shedding a skin.
[SOMSOC ART SHOW 2026]
SOMSOC ART SHOW is an annual art event organized by SOMSOC GALLERY. It creates new encounters and exchanges through art, offering a place where everyone can engage freely with works of art.
This year's theme is “One Artist, One Character.” Each artist condenses a character representing their current practice and worldview into one A4-sized work. Whether a figure, an abstract symbol, or an embodiment of the spirit, each character is a small universe reflecting the artist's aesthetic and ideas. Diverse expressions gather in Harajuku, where their individual worlds intersect.
