Papayep began as an independent manga magazine and derivative brand founded in 2017 by Zhengyi (Zhang Shang) and Chenghua (Chen Hua). In 2021, the team established an animation studio based in Paris, France.

Bringing together leading creators from both China and France, Papayep works across a wide range of fields, including original short animations, series works, advertising, film art direction, manga, illustration, toys, and board game design. At the core of the studio is the pursuit of “playful storytelling” that goes beyond visual expression alone. By blending different cultural backgrounds and diverse artistic styles, Papayep builds an original aesthetic unconstrained by existing frameworks.

For them, creation is an endless experimental process: breathing life into two-dimensional still images and elevating them into physical products.
