[Artwork Statement]
It was Dotman who drew the manga artist’s hand inside the panel. In the panel before it—or in one not yet drawn—Dotman passes through manga history and space-time. Manga artists of the same era possess him, while artists of other eras overlap all at once in his body. With that jumbled body, Dotman imagines drawing manga. Yet he exists only for the brief interval in which this imagination gathers into one. Therefore, when Dotman becomes the protagonist, the manga is inevitably drawn into the history of manga itself.
[SOMSOC ART SHOW 2026]
SOMSOC ART SHOW is an annual art event presented by SOMSOC GALLERY.
It creates new encounters and exchanges through art, offering a space where anyone can experience works freely and intuitively.
This year’s theme is “One Artist, One Character.”
Each artist condenses a character representing their current practice and world into a single A4-sized work.
Whether a figure, abstract symbol, or embodiment of spirit, each character is a small universe reflecting the artist’s aesthetics and ideas.
Diverse expressions converge in Harajuku, where distinct worlds intersect.
