Tomoyuki Nikki, born in 1968 in Kanagawa, Japan, is an artist whose practice centers on mixed-media and experiential works involving direct bodily engagement. He completed his MA at Goldsmiths, University of London, in 1998, and has been producing interactive sculptural works since the 1990s. Nikki’s work invites viewers to move beyond passive observation and instead experience sound, space, and the presence of others through their own bodies. Within these environments, the boundaries between self and other, interior and exterior, become fluid, allowing experience itself to function as an essential component of the artwork. His immersive sound piece I love to immerse myself in myself, but sometimes I also accept someone else, presented at SOMSOC ART SHOW 24S/S in 2024, marked a significant point in his recent practice. In the current exhibition, he presents a new work positioned as a companion piece, Everyone may speak louder than I can, further expanding his exploration of sound, voice, and embodiment. Alongside the installation, a short film by video artist SHIROBON using the work, as well as a live performance by LINDA—the model for the piece—are scheduled during the exhibition period. Through these layered collaborations, Nikki constructs a space where sound, image, and physical presence intersect, prompting a renewed awareness of what it means to exist together with others.
