The recurring motif “Black Figure” originates from the artist’s experience with atopic dermatitis, carrying memories of pain, visible skin changes, and the weight of being exposed to others’ gazes. These blackened human figures are not symbols of negation or concealment. Instead, they function like stars in the night sky—reflecting emotions, memories, and inner light that often remain unseen in everyday life. Through this imagery, hiromi invites viewers to look beyond surface appearances and consider the inner worlds that shape human existence. In the recent work Silhouette of Venus – A Goddess Swaying in the Night, hiromi portrays a feminine figure that gently shifts within the boundary between light and darkness.
