Shinpei Kashihara (柏原晋平)

Visual Artist, Painter, and Designer

After graduating from high school, Shinpei Kashihara taught himself painting and traditional sumi-ink techniques, beginning his professional artistic practice around 2002.

Working independently from established art circles or factions, he has developed a diverse career as both a painter and a designer. Centered on sumi-ink painting, his practice extends across a wide range of media, including works created with acrylic gouache and house paint, live performances with musicians, and art direction.

By freely blending Western and Eastern materials, techniques, and sensibilities, he has established a distinctive visual language that sets his work apart. This unique approach has earned him high recognition across multiple creative fields.

His major projects include the dedication of large-scale fusuma-e sliding door paintings to Ryōun-in, a sub-temple of Honnō-ji in Kyoto; participation in the Super Kabuki series, which gained widespread attention for the collaboration between Shido Nakamura and Hatsune Miku; artwork for Taichi Saotome’s “Shadow Pictures”; and visuals for music videos such as Tsuyoshi Domoto’s solo project ENDRECHERI. In addition, he has undertaken numerous collaborations with prominent artists and corporations.
