Kaneko Atsushi is a comic artist (manga-ka), illustrator, and film director from Yamagata, Japan.


His major manga works include BAMBi, SOIL, Wet Moon, Deathco, and Search and Destroy, a radical reinterpretation of Osamu Tezuka’s classic Dororo.


His publications have been released worldwide, particularly in France, and have received extensive international recognition.
He was nominated for the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d’Angoulême in 2012, 2013, and 2015.


SOIL received the GRAND PRIX DE L’IMAGINAIRE (Manga Category) at the Saint-Malo Literary Festival in 2012,
and Wet Moon won the Asia Prize from the French Association of Comics Critics in 2014.


As an illustrator, Kaneko has produced numerous works including film posters and music CD jackets.
He also served as writer and director for the short film Mushi, part of the omnibus film Ranpo Jigoku (2005),
based on the work of Edogawa Ranpo and starring Tadanobu Asano.


His latest work, EVOL, is currently serialized in the monthly magazine Comic Beam.
The series was selected as an “Essential Comic 2023” by the Spanish Association of Comic Critics,
and is being adapted into a live-action drama to be distributed via DMM TV.


Kaneko’s first solo exhibition, NO TIME TO DYE, was held in 2023 at the Shinjuku Isetan Gallery.
