査克林 (Chakurin.Go)

Painter and Designer

Born in China and currently based in Tokyo.

She completed her BA in Visual Communication at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (China) in 2015, and received her MA in Global Art Practice from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2021.

Her practice centers on installation and illustration, critically examining the supposedly comfortable conditions of postmodern urban life. Through a sharp yet poetic lens, she isolates and reconstructs moments of everyday city existence to reveal underlying tensions and contradictions.

Her representative works include the Mr. Popcha series, inspired by and reflecting on Aldous Huxley’s dystopian novel Brave New World; the surreal Midnight Animals series, depicting Tokyo at night and evoking themes reminiscent of Hiroki Azuma’s Otaku: Japan’s Database Animals (The Animalizing Postmodern); and Foodscapes, a long-term body of work that merges people, food, and urban landscapes into a single visual narrative.
